Dromoland Castle Hotel34 kWp, invisible from the gardens
Co. Clare · 5-star heritage hotel · Installed 2023
The brief
As custodians of a centuries-old estate, Dromoland Castle's leadership recognized their responsibility to operate sustainably without compromising the site's historical integrity. Their goal was to lower carbon emissions and reduce electricity costs, while preserving the estate's visual heritage, a five-star hospitality standard that leaves no room for a compromised roofline.
MarVal Power installed a 34 kWp rooftop solar PV system using 120 high-performance Tier-1 panels. The solution was carefully designed to remain unobtrusive, ensuring a seamless visual fit with the estate's architecture, panels sited on non-visible roof planes, cabling concealed inside existing plant routes, while delivering long-term energy performance for the hotel's daytime load.
Dromoland Castle sets an example of how historic properties can lead in climate action. Through thoughtful design and skilled implementation, MarVal Power helped the estate embrace renewable energy, reduce its carbon footprint, and maintain its timeless character, 25 tonnes of CO₂ avoided per year, 14% grid independence, and a five-star roofline that looks exactly as it did before.
