DGD Shredding30% energy independence, zero downtime
Co. Limerick · Waste & recycling · Installed 2023
The brief
DGD Shredding runs a live secure-shredding operation with tight chain-of-custody obligations and 24/7 power draw across balers, conveyors, and cross-cut shredders. Rising commercial electricity costs and a public commitment to becoming a Carbon Net Zero business meant grid-only wasn't an option. They needed a system that could clip a meaningful share off the daytime load, without a single hour of downtime on the shredding line.
MarVal Power designed a 54 kWp rooftop system built around 130 Tier-1 Longi solar panels feeding an SMA Core 2 inverter. Racking was rooftop-mounted and phased to keep the shredding lines running underneath; grid-connection works were scheduled around DGD's overnight windows so no operational continuity was lost. The result: a turnkey install commissioned inside the facility's existing security perimeter.
DGD Shredding now generates roughly 30% of its own energy on-site, cutting 15 tonnes of CO₂ every year and taking a concrete step toward its Carbon Net Zero commitment. The rooftop is now a live piece of the business, a hedge against grid pricing and a proof-point for clients that responsible destruction and responsible energy can sit on the same balance sheet.
