Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Solar panels harness the power of the sun to generate clean, sustainability and cost-effective electricity. The main kind of solar panels in use today are called PV panels, or PhotoVoltaic panels. These are the ones that produce electricity when exposed to light.
Solar PV panels can generate green, low-cost renewable energy from nothing but daylight, and are an effective solution for businesses looking to make the switch from traditional non-renewable energy sources. When you install a solar PV system, you are investing in a cost-effective energy solution for the next 25 to 30 years. That means you can say goodbye to rising electricity costs and unstable utility bills.
Give us a buzz and we can help you select the best solar panels for you.

Lower electricity bills – Switching to solar means you’re generating your own power and no longer relying on the national grid. That means smaller utility bills and bigger savings!
Extra cash from the grid – Any excess electricity that your solar PV panels generate will automatically be sold back to the grid. Your utility company will pay you for this contribution, providing an easy, passive income.
Sustainability – Become an environmental champion and a leader in sustainability by switching on your new solar panels. You’ll be demonstrating your environmental responsibility and showing customers and competitors how easy it is to care about the planet.
Tax benefits – Between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2025, selling your excess electricity back to Ireland’s national grid will qualify you for a tax exemption of €400 per year. Under the ACA scheme, your business may also be eligible to claim some of your solar investment back on tax.
Property value – Worried about your solar investment if you decide to sell? Solar panels can signficantly improve the worth of your property or building, so potential buyers will pay more!
Cost – The upfront investment into solar panels and solar batteries can be considerable. Fortunately, solar PV systems are cheaper than they have ever been, and there are a number of grants and tax incentives available in Ireland to offset that cost.
Overcast and rainy days – Solar panels still work on cloudy days, but their efficiency drops. It is important to consider your building’s location and the direction of your roof when working out whether you will benefit from solar. Lucky for you, MarVal Power can determine this for you! Space – Solar PV panels can take up a lot of space, and the more energy you use, the more space you will need.
An enormous amount of solar energy reaches our planet. According to NASA, the sun provides 44 quadrillion watts of power every single year, and the amount of sunlight hitting the earth’s surface every hour and a half could power the entire world for a whole year. That’s a tremendous amount of energy, and a great opportunity for the sustainably-minded among us to really make an impact.
Solar technology, like PV panels, convert this solar energy into electricity that we can use to power our world. Effectively, that means that with the right equipment, we have an unlimited supply of clean, green energy ripe for the taking!
The short answer is yes, solar panels still work on rainy or cloudy days! Solar panels are designed to convert light into power, so they are most effective in direct sunlight, and the electricity output on overcast days will be slightly less than on bright, sunny days.
In fact, rain can be really beneficial for your solar panels! The water will wash away any dirt, dust or debris that has built up on the panels, keeping your panels running efficiently and ensuring they can still absorb enough sunlight!
Yes, solar panels can be a great option for Irish businesses! There is a misconception that solar panels need constant, direct sunlight to be effective. But solar PV panels are responsible for converting solar energy into electricity, not direct sun rays. That means that even on Ireland’s grey, drizzly days, your solar PV system will still be generating electricity. Making the switch to commercial solar energy in Ireland could be just the thing your business needs to stand out!
Every business is unique and has a different energy requirement, but it can be hard to work out exactly what kind of solar power system you need. You can read more about the services and installation packages we offer here, or contact us for a free, personalised quote and we will assess your situtation.
The cost of commercial solar panels will vary immensely depending on your needs, energy-requirements and available space. The total cost of the entire solar system might sit between €15,000 and €100,000.
Fortunately for businesses, the ACA scheme means you will be able to claim this investment on your taxes. You will also likely be eligible for a significant grant to put towards your switch to sustainability. MarVal Power can help you through the grant application process, and will explain all of your possible funding options.
Grants & FundingIn Ireland, there is a lot of funding and grants available for commercial solar panel installation.
The SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant will provide up to €162,600 in financial support for businesses, the agriculture sector, the public sector, schools, community centres and non-profits.
For farmers, the TAMS 3 Solar Capital Investment Scheme makes solar energy accessible and affordable, offering up to 60% in grant aid towards new solar panels, with an investment ceiling of €90,000.
The ACA scheme allows businesses to claim their solar panel investment on tax in the first year of operation.
In Ireland, you will also be eligible for tax exemptions when you provide excess energy to the national grid.

Grants & FundingSolar panel system installation normally takes a day or two, depending on the size of the system. After the initial site assessment, proposals and grant applications are sorted, MarVal Power will get started on your installation.
First, the panels themselves will be installed. These are generally mounted on the roof of your business, but are sometimes installed on the ground, depending on the location. We will work will you to determine the best ground or rooftop solar panels for your business.
Next, we’ll connect your inverter. This is key equipment that will convert the energy output from the panels into a usable form of energy.
We’ll also install your meter, which will allow you to measure your energy usage (and track your savings!), and your solar battery, which will store solar energy, allowing the system to work efficiently all year round.
Finally, we’ll test everything and ensure your solar PV system is set up to operate correctly.
After everything is fitted, we can also organise regular maintenance and cleaning to keep your solar panels working efficiently for years to come!

Solar PVSolar power is one of the safest, cleanest forms of renewable energy on the market. Investing in a MarVal Power Solar PV System is investing in green, sustainable energy for the next several decades, slicing your utility costs.
With proper care and maintenance, solar panels can last 25 to 30 years. After this period, the panels will likely still work, but at a lower efficiency as they age. Investing in solar power now means lower energy costs sooner, as well as better asset value if you decide to sell your property.
